Weekend Chess

If chess isn’t available at your childcare centre or school, don’t worry – your child won’t miss out. Instead, your child can join us at our weekend chess sessions.

Our weekend chess for children sessions are divided into classes for 4-6 year olds, and classes for 7-10 year olds. We cater to complete beginners and experienced chess players, so wherever your child is in their chess journey, they’ll fit right in.

In addition to nurturing your child so that they can enjoy the many documented benefits of learning and playing chess, we make chess classes fun and sociable, so your child looks forward to coming every week.

As with all our classes, we don’t focus on competitions and winning. Instead, your child will learn that it’s ok to lose, and will betaught how to make friends using chess in a fun, engaging, and non-competitive environment.

To register your child for a trial weekend chess class, or to enrol your child in our program,

Weekend Chess Classes for Kids

If chess isn’t available (or convenient) at your school, that doesn’t mean your child has to miss out.

Instead, they can join us for weekend chess classes for kids!

Run at several locations in Brisbane, Chess Mates weekend classes are fun, interactive, and specially designed for kindergarteners and primary school kids ages 4 and up.

How we teach chess

Our weekend chess classes for kids are taught by attentive teachers who cater to all experience levels. Your Chess Mates teacher will use stories, songs, rhymes, puzzles, and gameplay to help your child learn to play chess in a fun and social environment.

As with all our chess classes, we don’t focus on competitions and winning. Instead, your child will learn how to win and lose gracefully, make friends, and have fun along the way. Classes run for 30 minutes for four- to six-year-olds, and 45 minutes for older kids.

Our goal is to help your child enjoy chess so much, they’ll look forward to coming back every week to learn more!

Why chess for kids?

There are many documented benefits to learning chess – especially for kids.

Studies have shown that learning chess helps kids develop their concentration, memory, critical thinking, creativity, spatial awareness, problem solving, decision making, and more.

And because Chess Mates classes focus on helping kids be a “good sport” when playing, learning chess can also help your child develop their emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience.
