We focus less on the need to win, and more on the enjoyable, overall experience of learning, interacting well with others, and doing your best, while still providing all the knowledge and technical skills that allow students to improve at chess. Chess Mates has a goal to teach 1 million kids how to play chess by the year 2030.

About the role:

We require passionate and energetic teachers with the ability to motivate, entertain, and inspire children to play chess. Experience working with children whether that be in the education field, preferably teaching primary or high school aged students is highly desired. However, we do encourage anyone with any sort of experience working with children or chess to apply.

Lesson plans are provided, and we’ll work with you to find classes that suit you. Most sessions are 3-4pm, between Monday to Friday, though morning sessions and lunch-break sessions are possible.

You will be teaching chess to children mainly between 5-12 years of age. The role requires you to build successful partnerships with various schools, providing leadership and supervision to students to ensure lesson plans and expectations are safely adhered to.

About you:

There’s no need to be a chess expert! What matters more is your enthusiasm for teaching and your willingness to learn.

A Paid Blue Card is preferred at time of application, though not essential. One will be needed, however, before work can commence.

An Australian driver licence and regular access to a car is also preferable for this position.
