How Ratings are Calculated
We use the Elo system to calculate each player’s new rating after each tournament.
Each player starts at a rating of 800. This number is a measure of relative “skill” between each other players.
Changes in Rating – How Ratings are Calculated
The system essentially compares the actual result of the game with a predicted result and awards/takes more points the further away from the prediction, the result. The predicted result is calculated by comparing the two players’ current ratings. A player whose rating is 100 points higher than another is expected to win 64% of the time, while a player whose rating is 800 points higher is expected to win 99.9% of the time.
